Ledge Wagon Plans
Ledge style gypsy wagon: this instructable shows how i built (a work in progress) my ledge style gypsy wagon. i'm a newbie at this site and this is my first post so please forgive me if i've done anything wrong.. Showing the building of a gypsy wagon step by step.. A vardo (also wag(g)on, living wagon, van, and caravan) is a traditional horse-drawn wagon used by british romani people as their home. possessing a chimney, it is commonly thought of as being highly decorated, intricately carved, brightly painted, and even gilded..
Vardos can be grouped into different styles including the brush wagon, reading, ledge, bow top, open lot and burton wagon. i think i like the reading and ledge style the best. perhaps i could combine the two styles and use a recycled two wheeled utility trailer as the vardo base frame.. About vardos(wagons) - romanyjib / ledge - similar to the reading in design, but the sides are not so sloping and the floor is narrower. the chimmy is also more central. the characteristic design of the ledge or "cottage shaped "wagon incorporated a more robust frame and living area that extended over the large rear wheels of the wagon..
